Eurax is a topical medication used to relieve itching (pruritus) and treat skin conditions such as scabies. Its active ingredient, Crotamiton, has both antiparasitic and anti-itch properties. It works by killing scabies mites and soothing irritated skin. Eurax is suitable for both adults and children over a certain age, as prescribed by a healthcare provider.
Eurax is applied directly to the skin, usually once or twice daily, depending on the condition being treated. For scabies, it is typically applied to the entire body from the neck down and left on for 24 hours before being washed off. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, broken skin, and mucous membranes. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully and wash hands thoroughly after application.
Use Eurax only as directed and avoid prolonged or excessive use. Inform your doctor if you have allergic skin reactions, open wounds, or sensitive skin conditions. While generally safe for most people, children, pregnant, or breastfeeding women should only use it under medical supervision. Discontinue use if severe irritation or rash occurs.
Eurax is contraindicated in individuals with a known hypersensitivity to Crotamiton or any component of the formulation. It should not be applied to severely inflamed, raw, or oozing skin. Avoid use in the eye area, genitals, or on mucous membranes. Not recommended for infants under 3 years unless specifically advised by a doctor.
Common side effects include mild skin irritation, redness, or burning sensation at the application site. Rarely, users may experience allergic reactions, such as itching, swelling, or rash. If any signs of a severe reaction occur, such as difficulty breathing or severe skin irritation, discontinue use and seek medical attention. Most side effects are mild and resolve on their own.
Eurax has minimal known drug interactions when used topically, but it’s important not to use it with other topical products that may cause irritation. Avoid applying Eurax at the same time as other medicated creams or ointments unless approved by your doctor. Inform your healthcare provider about all topical or systemic medications you are currently using. Using multiple skin treatments without guidance may worsen irritation.
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it’s close to the time of your next scheduled application, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular routine. Do not apply extra cream to make up for the missed application. Maintaining a consistent application schedule ensures the treatment is effective.
An overdose of Eurax is rare with topical use but applying excessive amounts may lead to increased skin irritation or allergic reaction. If accidentally ingested, it can cause nausea, dizziness, or more serious symptoms, and medical help should be sought immediately. Do not apply over large areas of skin for extended periods without medical advice. Always follow dosing instructions carefully.
Store Eurax at room temperature (15–25°C / 59–77°F), away from moisture, heat, and direct light. Keep the cap tightly closed when not in use. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
