Common use

Azopt (brinzolamide) is prescribed for the treatment of open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It works as a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, decreasing the production of aqueous humor in the eye, which helps reduce intraocular pressure and prevent damage to the optic nerve.

Dosage and direction

Azopt is usually applied as one drop in the affected eye(s) two to three times daily or as directed by your eye doctor. Tilt your head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid, and instill the drop into the conjunctival sac. Avoid touching the dropper tip to your eye or any surface.

Precautions

Inform your doctor if you have kidney disease, liver problems, or a history of eye infections or sulfonamide allergy. Avoid wearing contact lenses while applying Azopt unless specifically advised.

Contraindications

Do not use Azopt if allergic to brinzolamide, sulfonamides, or any component of the eye drops.

Possible side effect

Common side effects include temporary blurred vision, eye burning or stinging, bitter taste, or mild eye discomfort. Rare but serious side effects may include eye swelling, redness, or signs of allergic reaction. Seek medical attention if severe symptoms occur.

Drug interaction

Azopt may interact with other carbonic anhydrase inhibitors or medications affecting kidney function. Inform your doctor about all prescription drugs, over-the-counter products, and supplements you are taking.

Missed dose

If a dose is missed, apply it as soon as you remember and continue with the regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Overdose

Overdose may cause eye irritation or systemic effects if excessive amounts are absorbed. Seek medical attention if overdose is suspected.

Storage

Store Azopt at room temperature, away from heat and light. Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children. Avoid freezing.
